Inka ter Haar’s artistic practice focuses on the observation and visualization of inner figures and psychological bodies. Her work examines the interweaving of individual and collective experiences, situating biographical references within broader social and global contexts such as patriarchal structures, the struggle for women’s rights, environmental destruction, violence, and war.Her current focus lies on the transgenerational transmission of experiences of violence, the psychological mechanisms of trauma and aggression, and the possibilities of their disclosure and visual articulation.

Inka ter Haar (*1980, Duisburg, DE) lives and works in Basel (CH). From 2015 to 2017, she completed a Master of Fine Arts at the Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst Basel (HGK) under Prof. Chus Martínez. Previously, she earned her Diploma in Fine Arts from the Kunstakademie Essen in 2011, after studying Social Sciences and Sociology at the Gerhard-Mercator-University Duisburg-Essen between 2001 and 2007.

Her works have been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including at the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea (IT), Kunsthaus Pasquart, Biel (CH), Kunstraum Niederösterreich (AT), Wouters Gallery, Brussels (BE), Blue Velvet Projects, Zurich (CH), and Kunsthaus Langenthal (CH). Ter Haar has received several awards and grants for her artistic work.
